This route is of scenic beauty and cultural diversity. It has vast tracts of meadows and pastures lying across beautiful mountains. Chanderkhani, located at a height of 12,190 ft. provides an awesome and breathtaking view of some of the most beautiful snow clad mountain peaks like Tiger Thatch, Ali Ratni, Inderasan and Priyadarshini Range.
Chanderkhani, one of the most popular trekking routes in the Shivalik Range. The trek route passes through dense forest with a variety of botanical species of thich and colourful foliage emanating enchanting fragrance, compelling passerby to view and appreciate the raw natural beauty. You may also meet simple Himachali folks who are proud of their land, culture and heritage. Malana is the only one village where residents still retains its 2000 years old traditions of a “Village Republic”. They have a distinct way of life, social customs, judicial system and ethics.
PURPOSE: The purpose of the expedition is to expose the YHAI members to a greater adventure and to rough the rigours of plodding with a sense of love for nature and outdoor recreational activity aiming at promoting adventure in tandem with national.
DURATION OF THE PROGRAM: 10 Days / 9 Nights
REPORTING DATES: There will be 50 participants in each group on each reporting dates between 26th April to 31stMay’2014
Day 1: Reporting at base camp.
Day 2: Briefing and acclimatization.
Day 3: Rock climbing and rappelling
Day 4: Base camp to Malana Project by bus, then trek to Yosgo, Distance - 5 km(approx) (9000 ft) (4 hrs)
Day 5: Trek from Yosgo camp to Behali campsite via Malana village, Distance - 8 km (approx)(8900 ft) (3 hrs)
Day 6: Trek from Behali campsite to Waching, Distance - 7 km (approx) (9300 ft) (3 hrs)
Day 7: Trek from Waching to Nagroni, Distance - 5 km (approx) (10,000 ft) (5 hrs)
Day 8: Trek from Nagroni to Nauya Tapru via Chandrakhani pass, Distance - 14 km (approx) (9000 ft) (7 hrs)
Day 9: Nauya Tapru to Naggar via Rumsu Village and transfer to Base Camp by Bus, Distance – 7 km (approx) (4 hrs)
Day 10: Check out after breakfast

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: This expedition is open to YHAI members who are 18 years above and physically fit. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age will not be considered in any case.
HOW TO REACH THE BASE CAMP: Youth Hostel- Seobagh is 3kms from Kullu and on the left of the banks of meandering river Beas, near Jairu Mineral Water plant. It is linked by road via Ram Shila & Gamon Bridge, and commands a panoramic view of surrounding mountains. Regular bus services are available for Kullu from Delhi, Chandigarh & Punjab. The nearest Railway Stations are Ambala& Chandigarh & the nearest Airport is Bhuntar.
ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES: Tented accommodation will be provided.
FOOD & WATER SUPPLIES: Simple , nutritious vegetarian meals will be provided.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BRING ALONG: Cotton Shirts, Slacks, Cotton Pants, Woolen sweaters or Jackets, Sun Cap, Shoes, Socks, Enameled or Steel Mug / tumbler, Plate, Spoon, Water purifying tablets, Pen knife knife, Needle, Thread, Spare buttons, Goggles, Cold Cream / Vaseline, Soap, Toilet Paper, Towel, medicines which you normally use at home, Camera.
SAFETY & SECURITY: YHAI Group Insurance cover is for accidental death or permanent disability only. You are advised to take personal insurance cover for your journey and other related matters.Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of trekking routed for your safety. Our field staff and experienced camp leaders have been visiting the area to check all details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities.
CERTIFICATES: Participants who successfully complete the trekking and abide by the discipline of the program , will be awarded certificates.
JUSTICE TPS CHAWLA MEMORIAL ADVENTURE SCHOLARSHIP FOR GIRLS: YHAI announces Justice TPS Chawla Memorial Adventure Scholarship for underprivileged girls to participate in YHAI adventure activities. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.
SPECIAL CASUAL LEAVE: The Trekking Expedition organized by Youth Hostels Association of India have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Dept. of Personnel And Training), Government of India, vide Office Order no. 28016/3/89-Estt (A), Dated 25 October, 1989. Participants working in the Central Govt. Organization can apply to the authorities concerned for availing special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office up to 30 days in calendar year.
PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION: After the completion of each trekking expedition, a photography competition will be held for which attractive cash prizes and certificates will be awarded. You may also send your entries in the form of colored slides or prints on the following subjects:Nature-birds, Flowers, Scenic Beauty, Camping and Trekking. The size of the prints should be 8” x 10”. Please give brief details of the location of the subjects and also your name, address and group number on the reverse of the photograph. YHAI has the right to retain/use even the entries which are not selected for awards due to acknowledgement/compensation. Last date for submitting entries is 31stJuly 2014.
